Choosing Your Wedding Colour Palette With Confidence

There are so many design elements to consider when planning and designing your wedding, and one of the most important decisions is picking your wedding colour palette. In today’s blog post I’m going to share my top tips on how to pick your wedding colour palette with confidence.

Firstly, what is a colour palette? A colour palette is a selection of colours and tones that will be used throughout your wedding day. From bridesmaid dresses, the colours of flowers within your bridal bouquet, on-the-day stationery, linen and napkins, and so much more. To create a beautiful and cohesive style, all of these elements and colours must be carefully considered and complement one another.

Wedding Venue Inspiration

Firstly, consider what colours will suit and compliment your wedding venue. Aim to work with the aesthetics of your venue, especially if there are lots of decorative and styling elements already available.

Historic and grand wedding venues often have a lot of gold accents from the opulence photo frames, fireplaces and accessories. Therefore, it’s recommended you work with a gold metallic pairing to best suit the wedding venue. Marquee weddings are the perfect blank canvas, meaning you can be more creative and play around with your colour palette more.

Atmosphere & Mood

Think about the type of wedding atmosphere you are aiming to achieve. If you are hosting a classic, elegant and formal wedding a more soft and muted colour palette might be best suited. This isn’t to say you can’t work with any colours! Consider adding pops of colour throughout. Adding subtle hints of colour to the florals, stationery, tablescape and styling accessories always work well. A coloured water glass can easily transform the overall look and feel of your tablescape and create that wow factor.

If you are planning on hosting a fun, informal and relaxed wedding then a more colourful and vibrant colour palette will be more suited.

Different Colours

Design and create a colour palette consisting of 3-5 different colours that all complement each other. Add a neutral tone such as white or cream and pair it with a metallic accent of your choice. Gold and silver accents are the most popular options for weddings as these tones offer a classic and timeless style.

Think Seasonally

Consider the time of year you are getting married and what colours are best suited to the seasons. A similar approach to picking your favourite wedding flowers, always be mindful of the time of year and what flowers are available, and the different colourways.

Personal Favourites

Choose what you love! Do you have a signature style colour or favourite colour as a couple? If so incorporate this tone into your wedding style. Remember it’s your wedding day and all aspects of your special day should reflect you both.

Research

Before deciding on your final colour palette do a little research as some of your favourite tones might not be available either due to the season or because they are less popular. Talk with your wedding florist about what type of flowers are available in your chosen colour palette.
