The cost of your wedding flowers

Many wedding couples originally enquire wondering how much wedding flowers actually cost and how much they should be budgeting for their wedding florals. In summary, a very difficult question to answer as each wedding is unique. Here at Debrah J Flowers, nothing is too big or too small. We aim to create beautiful luxury bespoke floral arrangements that are unique to you, considering every single detail. Our approach is bespoke and personalised, tailored to your individual wedding requirements.

Our floral services start from £2,500 but this is dependent on your overall wedding vision and style, venue and size of your bridal party. There are many cost implications for your wedding flowers.

During your consultation, we will discuss your wedding vision, style, colour palette, favourite flowers and much more. Following this, I’ll create a bespoke proposal tailored to your wedding discussing all of the aspects discussed during the consultation. All floral costs will be outlined and broken down so that you can see where the majority of your floral wedding budget will be spent.

Some couples have no real budget in mind and need the expertise of a wedding florist to guide them in the right direction. With this in mind, I wanted to create a blog post outlining some factors that will affect the cost of your wedding flowers.

Seasonal Flowers

The time of year you decide to host your wedding celebration will not only have an impact on the cost of your wedding flowers, but also the selection of beautiful flowers available. Here in the UK, more flowers are available during the Spring and Summer months due to the warmer climate. This means you will have more choice of flowers used than in the Autumn and Winter months.

Peak periods such as Valentine’s Day and the Christmas season affect seasonal flower prices, typically due to high demand. Plus, the selection of flowers is more limited.

I always recommend choosing beautiful seasonal flowers as these are less expensive when in season.

Design Aspects

The overall design and style of your wedding will have a huge impact on the cost of your wedding flowers. Whilst we love marquee and tent weddings they typically are a blank canvas and require a higher budget for styling. There are more design aspects to consider but this does depend on your overall wedding vision and design. Also, be mindful of how much space is available. Typically speaking larger wedding spaces and venues need more filling with flowers and furniture.

For instance, you might decide to create a big, bold and beautiful flower arch to welcome guests into a marquee, but this floral arrangement might not be required at a wedding venue, hotel or manor house. Flower arches start from £1,500, a cost not always feasible, or money that could be spent elsewhere.

Our 2022 wedding flower designs are all about creating that all-important wow factor for guests and couples are going bigger and bigger with designs each year. It does come down to personal preference!

At Debrah J Flowers, I always aim to reuse as many flowers as possible. For example, any flowers used in your ceremony space can later be reused for your wedding reception. This isn’t always feasible, but we will work together to create creative designs that can later be repurposed. Not only is this environmentally friendly, but it’s also a great way to try and maximise your flower budget.

Economic Factors

Unfortunately, over the last two years, both Brexit and Covid have played a significant role in affecting the cost of wedding flowers. The cost of flowers in general.

New Brexit imports have increased the overall cost of any flowers entering the UK, as extra duty has been added, meaning suppliers have had to increase costs due to supply and demand. We are now seeing a knock-on effect of Covid, due to the number of wedding postponements and the impact that Covid has had on local farmers.

Here are my top four tips on how to maximise your wedding flower budget:

  • Pick seasonal flowers where possible.

  • Ask your wedding florist to work with local British flowers.

  • Be creative with your wedding floral arrangements and re-use your wedding flowers where you can.

  • Trust your wedding florist! Let your wedding florist advise what’s best for you.

I hope this blog post has been a useful guide on the cost implications of wedding flowers here in the UK. Please discuss your brief, don’t rush any final decisions and have faith and trust in your chosen wedding florist.

I love chatting about all things weddings and flowers, so please get in touch today to discuss your wedding flowers. Oh, and happy wedding planning!
